In bruges

It's a little cold in the shade,
So jump into the sun for some fun,
Walking the streets of Bruges,
Listening to the people talk as they pass by,
Taking in the sights.

Take on Bruges.
 -In Bruges

After Austria, the next stop was Belgium! My parents spent their time working with a business partner at their office so I was left on my own to explore belgium for a week. Walking around the streets and meeting people, I saw the various churches and just took in the sights of the city antwerp which  we were staying.

During my stay in Belgium, the highlight of my trip would have to be my trip to Bruges. =)

Let me take you on a journey from Antwerp to Bruges, starting with a picture of how the city streets look like.

The shopping area of the old town.

The central station where I took a train to Bruges

The train platform and train Probably my favourite picture of the whole trip, which is my current desktop for the entire time since I came back till now.

Some sights I saw on the train ride there, the country side of belgium.

This is a park which I first saw when I arrived in Bruges.

The old medieval street of Bruges, it is the oldest medieval city in Europe that is the least changed. Even the roads are the original road from the past.

Bruges is known as the Venice of Belgium as there is a canal that runs through the city, one can tour the city by boat.

Here is a tower that guarded one of the entrances of the city.

It overlooks this entrance to the city.

Probably the most famous part of the city, which is known for a climatic scene in the movie in Bruges. The Belfort tower.

In front of it is a square with a statue and people just enjoying the sight of the tower.

Probably the most busiest and crowded part of the city due the fame of this location.

I had the chance to photograph two policemen on bikes who were kind enough to pose for me :)

There were these girls who walked up to me and asked to take a photo with me, because they thought I was a japanese photographer. Haha.

Next came my climb up the Belfort tower...

Narrow... steep winding steps... the rope was there to help you climb... Not for the unfit and clastraphobic!

Here are some shots of the gears of the tower.

At the top, there were writings on the ledges which pointed the different sights and buildings of prominence in the city.

The view of Bruges from the tower was amazing. Let me start with the tower that overlooked the city entrance.

By the time I was done at the tower, it was time for me to rush back to the train station to get a train back to Antwerp. Here are some photos I took along the way.

And here is a final shot that ended my day trip to Bruges... A shot of the train station after I got off. Thats it for now. This roughly completes the highlights of my europe trip =) Till then I bid all adieu.
